In a meeting with Cuban Ambassador to this nation, Andres Gonzalez, at the Colombo Municipal Council, Balthazaar stated that she has a wealth of information about the history and achievements of the Caribbean nation since the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959.

The Cuban diplomat congratulated Balthazaar on her election on June 16, 2025, wished her success, and expressed conviction that projects of interest between Cuba and Sri Lanka can be developed, the Cuban mission in Sri Lanka informed.

Before other members of the Municipal Council and Maribel Duarte, first secretary of the Cuban Embassy here, Gonzalez delivered the Sri Lankan mayor a reproduction of a work by Cuban painter Servando Cabrera Moreno.

Vraie Cally Balthazaar is the second woman to hold the office.
