State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu Fenglian explained that next week’s event will commemorate the victory of the Chinese people’s war of resistance and the restoration of Taiwan within the homeland.
Zhu also noted that the commemoration seeks to defend the fruits of that victory, safeguard the common home of the Chinese nation, and promote national reunification and the rejuvenation of the country.
She indicated that the event will be attended by representatives from several sectors, including Taiwanese citizens, and will also include exchange activities and commemorative visits.
The spokesperson noted that this year also marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and World War II, and underscored that Taiwan’s restoration was an important outcome of that moment.
Zhu affirmed that people on both sides of the Strait have organized numerous commemorative events throughout the year, where Taiwanese and mainland compatriots honored the martyrs and shared the pride of being Chinese.
