Congress of doctors graduated in Cuba concludes in Ecuador

Quito, Nov 28 (Prensa Latina) The First South American Congress of Graduates of the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) in Cuba concludes today in the Ecuadorian capital after three days of academic presentations by professionals committed to the well-being of their people.

At the event, organized by the International Medical Society (SMI-ELAM), doctors who graduated from the Cuban educational institution, founded by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in 1999, discussed topics such as gender violence, nutrition, cancer, prenatal care, and health administration, among others.

Beyond the scientific discussions, the organizers highlighted the Congress as an opportunity to reaffirm the bonds of solidarity built around the Cuban model of public health.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Dr. Amaya Candia, president of SMI-ELAM and a Chilean, stated that this meeting marks a turning point for establishing research and development networks in public health.

A 2012 graduate, the doctor emphasized that the meeting could allow progress towards an international platform for cooperation between teachers, researchers and graduates of ELAM.
