Syria condemns Israeli aggression and affirms right to self-defense

Damascus, Nov 28 (Prensa Latina) Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani categorically condemned what he called a treacherous Israeli aggression against innocent civilians in the town of Beit Jinn in the southwest of the Arab nation.

In a message published on the X platform, the Syrian Foreign Minister warned that the continuation of these military actions constitutes “a grave threat to regional peace and security,” and called on the international community to adopt a firm stance to put an end to the violations committed by the occupying forces.

Al-Shaibani stated that what happened in Beit Jinn constitutes a crime, and reiterated that Syria maintains its absolute right to defend its territory and its people by all legitimate means established in international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

He also urged the UN, the Security Council, and Arab and Islamic countries to assume their responsibilities in the face of these repeated aggressions, denouncing the international community’s silence as one that “emboldens the aggressor and encourages him to commit further crimes against the civilian population.”

On Friday morning, thirteen people were killed and another 25 wounded, mostly civilians, in Israeli helicopter attacks on the city of Beit Jinn, located about 35 kilometers west of Damascus.

According to residents of this town nestled on the slopes of Mount Hermon, the offensive followed clashes with an Israeli military patrol that entered Beit Jinn, arrested three young men, and then withdrew, taking up positions on Bat Al-Warda hill, on the outskirts of the city.

The attack triggered an exodus of residents to neighboring villages, while some families were trapped under the rubble of homes destroyed by the bombing, the sources said.
