Solidarity Meeting with Cuba begins with a march in Valparaiso

Valparaiso, Chile, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) The 29th National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, which continues in Valparaiso on Saturday, began with a march along the downtown Condell Street to Plaza de la Victoria.

“A Tumbar, a Tumbar el Bloqueo Criminal” (Do Away, Do Away The Criminal Blockade), “Cuba Si, Bloqueo No” (Cuba Yes, Blockade No), and “Fidel, Fidel que tiene Fidel que los imperialistas no pueden con el” (Fidel, Fidel! What is it with Fidel that Americans cannot put him down) were some of the slogans chanted by the demonstrators who, carrying signs and flags, marched along the street.

The two-day event includes members of solidarity movement groups from Coquimbo, La Serena, Santiago, Talca, Valdivia, Ovalle, Concepcion, Valparaiso, Viña del Mar, and other cities.

“We are overjoyed to be reunited. Today we all come together for Cuba,” Marisol Molina, head of the movement’s southern region, told Prensa Latina.

Molina showed concern about the threats made by US President Donald Trump in the Caribbean, his tightening of the economic, commercial, and financial siege against Cuba, and the recent passage of Hurricane Melissa through the eastern region of the island.

Following the march, a political and cultural event was held at the Insomnia Theater, to which Cuban Ambassador to Chile, Oscar Cornelio Oliva, other members of the diplomatic corps, city council members, academicians, members of political and social organizations, and friends of the Caribbean nation participated.
