Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nebiat Getachew stated that Addis Ababa’s selection to host the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP32) reflects the international community’s recognition of its contributions to global climate action.
Getachew underscored that the Green Legacy Initiative (GLI), launched by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in 2019, exemplifies the African nation’s commitment to addressing climate change.
Ahmed highlighted the progress in renewable energy, the expansion of electric vehicle use, and the development of clean and green cities through corridor projects, all of which strengthened Ethiopia’s bid for the summit and enhanced its diplomatic stance.
He noted the appointment of Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos as COP32 President-designate.
Ahmed thanked the African Negotiating Group for its support, describing it as recognition of Ethiopia’s leadership in climate action and its capacity to host major global events.
