Australian government to push for tougher gun laws

Canberra, Dec 15 (Prensa Latina) Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that he will push for tougher gun laws after deeming the recent massacre in Sydney an act of anti-Semitic terrorism that struck the nation.

As a consequence of the shooting started by two men, at least 16 people were killed, and 38 were injured at a park near Australia’s Bondi Beach, during the Hanukkah celebrations.

Among the measures Albanese proposed is to limit the number of firearms a licensed gun owner can possess.

This proposal arose after police confirmed that the older of the attackers, a 50-year-old Australian, had legally purchased six rifles.

“The government will take the necessary steps, including stricter regulations,” Albanese stated, warning that licenses should not be permanent because people can become radicalized over time.

Australian media outlets are describing the attack as the deadliest in nearly 30 years in the country.
