The airline made this decision after two of its aircraft were attacked while performing a preparatory maneuver upon arrival from Brazil to land at Toussaint Louverture International Airport, according to a statement issued by the company.
The airline specified that it will maintain this suspension “indefinitely” until further notice, as it is a precautionary measure pending technical and security assessments, instructions from the authorities, and the conclusions of ongoing investigations.
The statement from ZED Airlines S.A. promises to communicate any official updates as soon as it receives information validated by higher authorities, although national newspapers such as La Gazeta noted that these incidents “are not new.”
Haiti has been facing a resurgence of violence for several years, according to these media outlets, perpetrated by armed gangs that control a large part of Port-au-Prince, including the area around Toussaint Louverture International Airport.
