Three young people die in a landmine explosion in Syria

Damascus, Jan 29 (Prensa Latina) Three young people died from landmine explosions caused by the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in villages near the Tishrin Dam, east of Aleppo province, local authorities reported.

The Aleppo Governorate stated in a press release that the victims, whose identities and ages were not specified, died after detonating explosive devices in rural areas near the dam.

The statement warned that the proliferation of landmines poses a direct threat to the civilian population and hinders the safe return of residents to their homes.

In response to these events, the Syrian Ministry of Emergency Situations and Disaster Management issued a warning to citizens to avoid entering or returning to several areas formerly under SDF control, due to the high risk posed by landmines, improvised explosive devices, and other remnants of war.

In a statement, the Ministry specified that return to these territories should only occur after they have been fully secured by specialized teams and sappers from the Ministry of Defense.

The Ministry condemned what it described as serious violations of international humanitarian law by the SDF and reaffirmed that its operations continue uninterrupted through the National Mine Action Center, in coordination with relevant institutions and organizations.
