Dutch right-wing leader threatens vote of no confidence

Amsterdam, January 31 (Prensa Latina) The leader of the far-right Party for Freedom in the Netherlands, Geert Wilders, declared his intention to file a motion of no confidence against the incoming government.

“The motion of no confidence is ready,” the politician wrote on his Twitter account, after calling the program of the future governing coalition a “catastrophe.”

The agreement, reached by the social-liberal and progressive Democrats 66 (D66), the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), and the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), only holds 66 of the 150 seats, meaning it will depend on occasional support from the opposition.

The move by the right-wing leader, whose party won 26 seats in the October elections, could further complicate governance in the country.

Experts believe Wilders’ pressure reflects the fragility of the incoming minority government and deepens political instability, while the threat aims to force a new election.
