In a statement released by the Lebanese National News Agency, Aoun asserted that this action constitutes “a flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty, an environmental and health crime against Lebanese citizens and their land, and a continuation of repeated Israeli attacks against Lebanon and its people.”
The president warned that these practices endanger the health of the population and threaten the environment by directly impacting farmland and the livelihoods of the inhabitants of southern Lebanon.
Aoun demanded that the international community and relevant United Nations organizations assume their responsibility to halt these actions and guarantee the protection of Lebanese sovereignty.
He also ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare a documented dossier, in coordination with the Ministries of Agriculture, Environment, and Public Health, with a view to taking the necessary legal and diplomatic measures and filing complaints with the relevant international bodies.
According to local reports, Israeli aircraft sprayed agricultural areas in southern Lebanon with unknown chemical substances on more than one occasion.
The Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture announced that it is conducting tests to determine the nature of these products and assess their potential impact on agriculture, the environment, and public health.
