Palestinian NGOs denounce Israeli violations at Rafah crossing

Ramallah, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) Several Palestinian NGOs denounced the measures adopted by Israel to obstruct the movement of people through the Rafah border crossing, reopened after strong international pressure on the country.

Samir Zaqout, vice president of the Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights, accused the Israeli military forces of humiliating the population, violating their dignity, and confiscating the belongings of those returning to

Gaza Strip from Egypt.

Zaqout stated that they aim to force many of them not to return to their land and instead, seek another place to live.

He believes that those actions are part of a plan to displace the inhabitants of Gaza Strip “quietly and smoothly, without an official announcement or political noise.”

Alaa Skafi, director of the Al-Dameer Human Rights Foundation, echoed this remark and stated that the mechanism is both ineffective and dangerous.

The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Advocacy, in turn, estimated that the Rafah crossing has become a tool of pressure against those returning to Gaza.
