UN office in Haiti calls for support for new government

Port-au-Prince, Feb 11 (Prensa Latina) The UN office in Haiti is supporting the government that replaced the outgoing Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) in the face of the current situation in the country due to the actions of criminal gangs, a local media outlet reported.

The United Nations Integrated Office (BINUH) called on various sectors to mobilize alongside the executive branch led by Alix Didier Fils-Aime, focusing on national priorities such as security and the promotion of new elections, the Gazzette Haiti newspaper added.

BINUH representatives also acknowledged, in a statement, the official end on February 7 of the CPT’s mandate in the Caribbean nation, after two years in office, and its replacement by the executive branch headed by Fils-Aimé.

Binuh officials remembered in their statement that the aforementioned collective governing body concluded its mandate, fulfilling the provisions of a national political agreement approved on April 3, 2024.

The Haitian headquarters of the world organization stated that it “took note” of this new stage in the transition process in Haiti and requested “broad support for the current government” headed by Fils-Aime, Gazzette Haiti reported.
