Argentinean organizations boost solidarity campaign with Cuba

Buenos Aires, Feb 11 (Prensa Latina) Argentinean organizations have agreed to launch a solidarity campaign with Cuba in the face of economic aggression by Washington, which includes collecting donations for the purchase of solar panels, medical supplies and food.

A report to which Prensa Latina had access specifies that the participants “launched a broad appeal to all the Argentine people and its political, social and trade union structures in the face of the criminal and genocidal isolation to which Cuba is being subjected by the government of President Donald Trump”.

Donations will be dedicated to the purchase of solar panels, medical supplies and food; in addition, cultural and political events will take place and a letter will be prepared for presentation at the UN, a way to give our concrete support to the people of Cuba, the note added.

The call was launched in principle by the leadership of the Argentine Communist Party and other guilds, social organizations, intellectuals and academics join it. The House of Argentine-Cuban Friendship hosted a meeting of referents of those collectives that defined a plan of action for solidarity.

“We call to join this urgent solidarity campaign demanding the immediate cessation of the measures announced by Washington, considering that Cuba is a danger and a threat against the security of the United States, a real fallacy,” says the meeting minutes.

Cuba does not represent any threat to the United States or any country in the world, on the contrary, through its internationalism it has provided health, education and cultural services to numerous peoples in its 67 years of revolution.

It also demands the lifting of the ban on supplying oil to Cuba, the “genocidal blockade that has subjected the Cuban people for more than 65 years”.

The minute was signed by the two Central Workers of Argentina, the Argentine Movement for Solidarity with Cuba, the Communist and Solidary Parties, the American Association of Jurists, the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity, the Capital Taxi Drivers’ Association and the Dignity Movement.

Liga Argentina por los Derechos Humanos, Nuestra America Movimiento Popular, Corriente Nuestra Patria, Peronismo 26 de Julio, Brigada MST/TeleSur, Frente de Liberación Agustín Tosco, Área de Estudios sobre Cuba CEFMA, CAPAC, MOPASSOL, Union de Mujeres de Argentina, Corriente Política 17 de Agosto y Jubilados en Lucha also joined the camaign.

The president of the House of Friendship, Ruben Zaccaro, said that other groups and institutions will join the solidarity campaign for Cuba.
