Mexican party opens food collection centers in support of Cuba

Mexico City, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) Solidarity continues to be expressed on Friday by diverse sectors and organizations in Mexico, including the ruling National Regeneration Movement (MORENA), which has launched a campaign to collect food and medicine for Cuba.

“We are launching a national collection campaign to send humanitarian aid to the sister nation of Cuba,” MORENA President Luisa Alcalde said in a message posted on her X profile.

Alcalde also shared a list of medicines, food, personal hygiene items, and supplies such as flashlights that are currently needed, along with the addresses of collection centers throughout the country.

Cuban Ambassador to this nation, Eugenio Martinez, thanked Alcalde through the same platform, asserting that “Mexico’s humanism, dignity, and brotherhood have been demonstrated” and the people of the island “will not forget the support and accompaniment” of this nation.

The Mexican Navy ships Papaloapan and Isla Holbox arrived in Cuba on Thursday with approximately 814 tons of essential food and hygiene products, having departed from the port of Veracruz to the Caribbean nation on Sunday.

“The ships are arriving in Cuba today. As soon as they return, we will send more support,” President Claudia Sheinbaum, who has described the energy blockade imposed by Washington on the island as unjust, affirmed on Thursday.

Diverse voices in Mexico and globally, from parliamentarians to movements and political parties, have spoken out in support of the Caribbean nation in the face of the United States’ energy blockade, which has been described as cruel and anachronistic.
