This statement was made by the PCT’s Commission on International Affairs and Relations, following the news that a speedboat registered in Florida, crewed by 10 armed individuals, entered Cuban territorial waters this Wednesday and opened fire on members of the Border Guard Troops.

The political organization described the incident as a provocation and a flagrant violation of international law, and maintained that it is not an isolated incident, but rather the result of a climate of hostility fostered by the United States government.

“The reckless incursion of a US-registered vessel into Cuban waters is a direct consequence of President Donald Trump’s aggressive and provocative rhetoric, which encourages such acts and jeopardizes regional peace and stability,” the Commission said in its statement.

The Communist Party of Cuba (PCT) emphasized that the Caribbean nation responded with dignity and resolve, and reaffirmed its right to self-defense from the moment its forces were fired upon.

The Commission stressed that these events reaffirm the unwavering will of the Cuban people to defend their self-determination and demanded an end to the interventionist rhetoric that seeks to undermine peace in Cuba.

It reaffirmed its historical solidarity with the Revolution and assured that it remains vigilant against any attempt at aggression that could threaten the freedom of nations.

The day before, Cuba reported that the commander of the Cuban vessel was injured as a result of the confrontation.

Four attackers were killed and six others were injured; the injured were evacuated and received medical attention.
