Colombia: Presidential candidate Cepeda resumes campaign agenda

Bogota, Mar 16 (Prensa Latina) Presidential candidate Ivan Cepeda, representing the Pacto Historico (Historical Pact) alliance, will resume his campaign in Colombia as of this Monday, accompanied by his vice-presidential running mate, Aida Quilcue, following a visit to Brazil that he described as successful.

Cepeda confirmed this in a message posted on social media, in which he reiterated that one of the leading issues of his campaign will be to express his rejection of corruption.

The presidential aspirant explained, “My fight against corruption did not begin with my electoral campaign: it has been a fight against organized crime, against paramilitary groups, against those who have tried to seize control of the State or have seized it at certain points in our recent history.”

He also commented that he finds it striking how the far right now wants to present itself as a force that has combated that scourge.

He emphasized, “It is with them that I have debated in Congress, with their leader Alvaro Uribe (referring to the former president of Colombia between 2002 and 2010), who has not only supported corruption, but also, under his administration, attempted to allow paramilitary-political mafias to take root in Congress and the Executive.”

Cepeda is resuming his activities in Colombia after a trip to Brazil, during which he met with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at the Planalto Palace in Brasilia.
