Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that the Japanese ship entered the strait and the Chinese Army handled the situation in accordance with the law.
Guo remembered that “erroneous statements” by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi over Taiwan caused a serious impact on bilateral relations.
Guo indicated that the ship’s deployment constituted a deliberate provocation that, he said, demonstrates attempts to interfere in the Strait militarily.
The spokesperson underscored that this action damaged the political foundation of China-Japan relations and threatened the country’s sovereignty and security.
He noted that China lodged a formal protest with Japan regarding these events and reiterated that the Taiwan issue is a red line related to sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Guo urged Tokyo to reflect on its actions and avoid exacerbating the situation.
