The injectable vaccines protect against fowlpox, infectious bronchitis, infectious bursal disease, avian pneumoencephalitis, blackleg, equine encephalomyelitis, and bovine bacillary icterohemoglobinuria.
The Caribbean nation is implementing these seven veterinary vaccines in stages, using 100% domestically developed technology and complying with all production standards and controls issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health.
In this way, the country ensures the efficacy, safety, stability, and consistent production of vaccines against the aforementioned diseases, according to a press release justifying the 2025 Technological Innovation Award.
The seven formulations represent a significant achievement in technological knowledge and the sanitary control of these diseases in Cuba, thanks to the leading role of the Directorate of Science and Innovation, the LABIOFAM Business Group, and the Viral and Bacterial Vaccine Production Company, among other stakeholders.
Large-scale production required, for the first time, compliance with rigorous evaluation processes and strict quality control standards.
In all cases, complex research and development phases were followed using in vitro and in vivo experimental models, including the acquisition and characterization of the different antigens and studies of formulation, safety, and efficacy.
