The moving act, held at the Cuban Embassy in Italy on Monday, was presided over by Cuban Ambassador to this nation, Jorge Luis Cepero, and included the participation of Rigoberto Zarza, Director for Europe at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).
A large number of representatives from political parties, trade unions, and social and student movements attended the event, reaffirming their support for the Italian government and people in their speeches and emphasizing the importance of unity among all forces in defense of the Cuban Revolution and against the imperialist threat.
Cepero expressed his country’s deep gratitude for the solidarity shown by the Italian people during these times, and highlighted the march for Cuba, with more than 10,000 people, which flooded Rome on April 11, “an extraordinary demonstration that truly touched our hearts.”
Zarza spoke with the participants about the complex situation the island is currently facing, given the tightening of the criminal economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States under the administration of President Donald Trump, who is even threatening a possible military invasion.
He also expressed gratitude, on behalf of the Cuban people, for the expressions of solidarity received from Italy over the last 60 years, and particularly during this recent period, as “there is a full awareness within the solidarity movement of the particular moment the country is experiencing.”
