“The US government insists that it intends to take military action against Cuba because the country is devastated… and it would be an honor to liberate it,” the Foreign Minister stated on his social media account.
Rodriguez emphasized that the cynicism and hypocrisy of this stance lies in the fact that the United States has been trying to devastate Cuba for decades through economic warfare.
The head of Cuban diplomacy pointed out that the current administration has been doing so with even greater zeal in recent months, through two Executive Orders that he described as genocidal.
“Both the economic and energy blockades, the new extraterritorial coercive measures, and the threat of military aggression and the aggression itself are international crimes,” the Minister stated.
Florencia more than six decades, the United States has imposed an economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba, which was tightened last January through an executive order signed by US President Donald Trump.
The lack of access to fuel resulting from this intensification affects critical areas such as electricity generation, the operation of hospitals, food production and distribution, and water pumping in the Caribbean nation.
Last Friday, Trump announced further coercive measures against the island, declared his intention to take control of the Caribbean nation “almost immediately,” and said that, after the war in Iran, he might send the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to within 100 yards (91.44 meters) of the coast.
