Cuba participates in IAEA meeting on food and agriculture

Havana, Jun 13 (Prensa Latina) Cuba participated in a meeting in Vienna convened by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to identify strategic priorities in food and agriculture for Latin America and the Caribbean within the framework of the Atoms4Food initiative.

This is part of a technical cooperation project under the regional agreement ARCAL, designated RLA5093, “Improving food security and the sustainability of agri-food systems from belt to fork through the integration of advanced nuclear techniques (ARCAL CXCVIII).”

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) works to integrate regional activities in food and agriculture in Latin America and the Caribbean to strengthen food security, crop resilience, and sustainable agricultural systems.

Representing Cuba was Isis Maria Fernandez Gomez, MSc, the Cuban project leader.

In the meeting, Deputy Director General and Head of the Technical Cooperation Department Hua Liu told participants that the projects facilitate stronger strategic partnerships between countries, regional organizations, and technical partners.

Furthermore, they enhance the capacity to mobilize resources and increase the visibility of how nuclear science contributes to solving real development challenges.

Through the technical cooperation program, the IAEA helps countries in Latin America and the Caribbean develop capacities for applying nuclear techniques in food and agriculture.
