Prensa Latina congratulates Rossiya Segodnya news agency

Havana, Jun 24 (Prensa Latina) The president of the Latin American news agency Prensa Latina (PL), Jorge Leganoa, congratulated the staff and management of the Russian state news agency Rossiya Segodnya (RS) on its anniversary.

“On behalf of the journalists, staff, and myself, I extend my sincerest congratulations on your first 85 years of fruitful existence, wishing you continued success and our best wishes for your service to the truth,” he said.

Leganoa recalled the creation of Sovinformburo, the direct predecessor of this agency and others such as RIA Novosti and Sputnik, during the difficult days of the Great Patriotic War.

This news outlet was a true beacon of truth when the world was engulfed in war, informing the Soviet people and the entire world about the feats of the Red Army soldiers.

“We are proud to count RS among Prensa Latina’s allies. We know they are not unaware of the complex situation Cuba is experiencing due to the intensification of the US government’s economic, commercial, and financial blockade against our country, and we are very grateful for their solidarity and support,” Leganoa stated in his letter.

The President of Prensa Latina noted that the agency faces serious problems due to power outages, with blackouts of up to 18 hours a day at its headquarters, but that it has continued broadcasting using alternative means.

He affirmed that, as the Sovinformburo, they will maintain their commitment to informing the world with truthfulness and objectivity.

Although times have changed, the legacy of the Sovinformburo lives on today.

Faced with attempts at manipulation and disinformation by the major Western media monopolies, the dedicated work of Russian news agency journalists contributes to the dissemination of quality information.
