The announcement marks a new escalation that threatens to increase, Tehran and Washington confrontation in the Gulf region.
The Iranian statement came hours after US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the end of a new round of attacks against Iran, targeting, according to Washington, more than 80 military targets.
Among the targets mentioned by CENTCOM include air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radars, missile systems, and Revolutionary Guard ships in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran had previously promised a “decisive” response to US attacks on targets near this strategic sea route, believing that Washington repeatedly violated the memorandum of understanding between the two countries.
Iranian media also reported that Tehran launched missiles against US warships.
Iran’s foreign ministry warned, in a statement published on its official Telegram channel, about the consequences of US breach of the agreement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that Iran will take decisive steps to protect its interests and national security.
Shortly after, the Fars agency reported that Iran had launched missiles and drones against US naval targets.
In parallel, the Revolutionary Guard affirmed to have shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone in southern Iran, according to local media.
Bahrain’s interior ministry announced that sirens rang on Tuesday after the US attacked dozens of targets in Iran.
In a statement posted on its website, the portfolio called for citizens and residents to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place.
