Mexico: PEMEX participates in chemical emergency drill

Mexico City, Jul 10 (Prensa Latina) Workers from the state-owned oil company Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) in the southern states of Tabasco and Chiapas will participate in a national drill to strengthen response capacity to chemical emergencies.

A company statement underscores that the drill will strengthen inter-institutional coordination, assess response protocols for such situations, and enhance protection for the population, facilities, and the environment.

Organized by the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC), the exercise will include the Nuevo Pemex, Cactus, Ciudad Pemex, and La Venta Gas Processing Complexes, as well as the Storage and Distribution Terminals in Villahermosa, Tuxtla Gutierrez, and Tapachula.

The initiative, coinciding with National Chemical Emergency Preparedness and Response Day, will also involve the Cactus Liquefied Gas Distribution Terminal and the Olmeca Refinery, as well as the Villahermosa Regional Hospital and the hospitals in Comalcalco, Ciudad Pemex, and Paraiso.

Authorities will also hold, at the said healthcare centers, a series of keynote speeches on rescue protocols, chemical risk identification, and the classification and transport of hazardous materials.
