Brazil: Medicines collected for shipment to Cuba

Brasilia, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) The Rio de Janeiro Committee of Solidarity with Cuba handed over medicines to the Landless Rural Workers' Movement (MST) for shipment to Cuba, during an event marking the centenary of revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.

Carmen Diniz, a member of the group, explained to Prensa Latina that the handover of the medicines—collected in Nova Iguacu and Raizes do Brasil, Rio de Janeiro—took place at the Florestan Fernandes National School in Guararema, Sao Paulo.

At the educational center, members of the Committee participated in a day of activities dedicated to internationalism and the legacy of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.

“The intensification of the US blockade has caused great harm to our beloved island,” stated Diniz, who coordinates countless displays of support for the cornered nation.

The medicines were received by Rodrigo Sune of the MST and other members of the organization, which also consistently supports Cuba.

Diniz noted that, as part of the events marking Fidel Castro’s centenary, the Committee also organized an exhibition on his internationalism, presented a tribute video, and donated a commemorative flag.

Representatives from various Cuba solidarity groups from other Brazilian cities also participated in the activities held at the school, which serves as a hub for the MST’s training and organizational initiatives.
