India, Canada negotiate comprehensive economic partnership agreement

New Delhi, Aug 28 (Prensa Latina) India and Canada are negotiating a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), official sources underscored on Friday during Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s visit to that North American country.

The Indian financial institution reaffirmed that both nations seek to achieve 50 billion dollars in bilateral trade by 2030.

In relation to that goal, Sitharaman and her Canadian counterpart, François-Philippe Champagne, attended the inaugural Economic and Financial Dialogue between the two countries in Toronto on Thursday.

The Finance Ministry revealed that the event aims to strengthen cooperation in areas such as macroeconomic development, the financial sector, bilateral investment, and shared international economic priorities.

Champagne stated in a joint press briefing that Canada is well-positioned to support India’s energy and food security, while the South Asian nation brings scale, talent, and technology to the partnership, ANI news agency reported.

During her stay in Ottawa, Sitharaman also participated in roundtables on investment and business and held meetings with Canadian companies, with discussions focused on sectors such as energy, artificial intelligence (AI), and critical minerals.
