Cuba congratulates Ismail Ould on his appointment

Havana, Aug 28 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez congratulated Mauritanian politician and diplomat Ismail Ould on his election as the new Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

On the social network X, Rodriguez highlighted that this election was backed by the foreign ministers of the Organization’s 57 member countries and that Ismail will hold the post for the 2027-2032 term.

“We wish him success in this high-level responsibility,” he stated.

Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, born on November 9, 1960, is a Mauritanian diplomat and politician.

He served as the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen and, consequently, as head of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen from 2015 to 2018.

Prior to that position, Ahmed served as the United Nations Special Representative for the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response.

He also served as Deputy Special Representative and Deputy Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.

Before this new appointment, he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritania from June 11, 2018, to March 31, 2022.
