Russia considers Ceuta crisis accusations unfounded

Moscow, Sep 1 (Prensa Latina) Accusations against Russia for its alleged involvement in the mass arrival of migrants to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, in northwest Africa, are unfounded, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Tuesday.

Zakharova said, “When I was asked this question, I wanted to know if any evidence, data, screenshots, photographs, or transcription had been presented to support the accusations against Russia. They replied that they had found nothing to corroborate the claims,” by the chief of the Spanish Government.

The spokeswoman underscored that without facts, without materials backed by figures, dates, or names, there is simply nothing to discuss. Any other side could find itself in the same situation, because there is no evidence to support the charges.

The diplomat added that Madrid rushed to make statements about Russia’s alleged role in the Ceuta migration crisis without first consulting Moscow.

Zakharova noted, “When there are accusations, there must be concrete facts.”

Thousands of migrants from Morocco and other African countries entered Ceuta, the Spanish enclave in North Africa bordering Morocco, on July 30 and 31.
