New solidarity caravan from Italy heads to Cuba

Rome, Sep 23 (Prensa Latina) Under the slogan "Route to Cuba: Being where it matters," a solidarity caravan opposing the US blockade departed from Rome to Havana, comprising representatives from several Italian political forces and organizations.

The initiative, boosted by organizations such as ARCI, CGIL, ANAIC, NEXUS, ANPI, ARCS, AOI, and the Network for Peace and Disarmament, in partnership with the Democratic Party (PD), the Five-Star Movement (M5S), and the Green and Left Alliance, prioritizes strengthening relations with Havana and countering Washington’s attempts at isolation.

Cuba’s Ambassador to Italy, Jorge Luis Cepero, spoke, at a recent press briefing, about the caravan, the impact of unilateral coercive measures implemented by the United States government against the island, and the resilience of the Cuban people.

The large delegation visiting the Caribbean nation until September 30 comprises representatives from associations and trade unions, as well as parliamentarians, local leaders, and journalists.

They urge the Italian government and European Union leadership to use the diplomatic and political tools at their disposal to foster dialogue and help remove the obstacles preventing the Cuban population from accessing essential goods and humanitarian aid.

Marco Papacci, president of the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC), said the mission traveling to Havana rejects the unilateral economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, in violation of international law, which has been in effect for more than sixty years and has progressively tightened.
