“Europe is obsessed with militarization; it is obsessed with plans to militarize the EU—that is, the economic bloc—and transform it into a political-military bloc,” Peskov said when asked for the Kremlin’s assessment of statements made by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Peskov described Europe’s current trend as “serious” and a “dead end”—a view he said was borne out by history—and assured that Russia, “taking into account these aggressive actions and plans, remains on alert and is closely monitoring the entire situation.”

They are building their defense and security identity on the basis of confrontation with the Russian Federation. That leads to no good outcome, Peskov asserted.

The spokesman noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that Moscow is “taking all necessary measures to ensure national security at a strategic level.”

As the president has reiterated, we are open to dialogue. We believe that any problem should be resolved not through demonstrative missile launches, but through dialogue, he emphasized.

The day before, the French president released a video of the test launch of an M51.3 strategic ballistic missile and stated that Paris had sent a “clear and forceful message” with the test.
