Saba reported that the request was conveyed through a letter from Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Afrah al-Zouba, addressed to the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs.
Al-Zouba warned in the letter of the worsening crisis in the Taiz Governorate, affirming that the tightening of the siege on the city and surrounding localities threatens to trigger a humanitarian catastrophe that would affect more than four million people, including residents and displaced persons from districts such as Al-Shamayatayn, Al-Mawasit, and Jabal Habashi.
Yemeni human rights and humanitarian aid organizations accuse the Houthis of blocking most roads leading to government-controlled areas in the governorate and maintaining a siege since the conflict began in 2015.
According to these entities, the restrictions hinder the arrival of aid convoys and the provisioning of the population, accusations that the Houthi movement denies.
