US moves at the UN to curb support for Cuba decried in Italy

Rome, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) — The National Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC) has denounced that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is blackmailing national delegations at the UN to prevent them from voting in favor of a Cuban resolution condemning the blockade.

“Diplomatic gangsterism: Marco Rubio is blackmailing the UN to cover up a crime on Cuba,” states a text published by ANAIC on its Facebook page.

Another post adds: “Marco Rubio’s blackmail will not stop the truth: Hands off Cuba!” It further notes that the arrogance and overbearing nature of US imperialism have reached a new peak of pettiness and brazenness.

The message asserts that Washington is “shamelessly” displaying its customary methods—“intimidation and grotesque threats on all fronts”—just days before the United Nations General Assembly votes on the report titled *Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba*.

According to the ANAIC, the person pulling the strings of this wretched operation of interference is Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Gripped by panic over an inevitable new diplomatic defeat on the international stage, he is subjecting heads of state and government from across the globe to undue pressure and covert retaliation.

“This is a desperate and pathetic attempt to force the international community to become complicit in a true collective punishment on the Cuban people,” the document asserts.

In the face of this ruthless campaign of falsehoods, the ANAIC (National Italy-Cuba Friendship Association) points out that the response from Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla exposes the hypocrisy of those who preach democracy while trampling upon the sovereignty of nations.

In a statement released on social media, the National Italy-Cuba Friendship Association condemns—in the strongest possible terms—this infamous, blackmail-based policy orchestrated by the United States.

“At the same time, we issue a direct appeal to our own government: may it find the political courage required not to bow its head before the threats and arrogance of Washington, and instead—without any hesitation—stand on the side of international legality, the rule of law, and the Cuban people,” the association emphasized.
