Pope Francis favors new cultural model
Vatican City, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina) Pope Francis said on Thursday that health measures will be insufficient to overcome the sequels of the Covid-19 pandemic in the educational sector, unless they are accompanied by a new cultural model.
In a message to the participants in the virtual meeting 'Global Compact on Education', organized by the Pontifical Lateran University, the Holy Pontiff noted that the situation caused by the pandemic has raised people's awareness about the need to transform the model of development.
Pope Francis pointed out that the crisis is global, impossible to reduce or limit to a single field or sector, and underlined that Covid-19 'made it possible to recognize globally that what is in crisis is our way to understand reality and to relate'.
After noting that education is one of the most effective ways to humanize the world and history, the Pope said that 'a new period of educational commitment is necessary today that will involve all components of society'.
In that regard, he called to sign a global educational compact for and with the youngest generations, which will involve the training by mature people of families, communities, schools and universities, institutions, religions, rulers, the entire humankind.
The value of our educational practices will not be measured by having passed standardized tests, but by the capacity of having an impact on the heart of a society and to create a new culture, he pointed out.
