South Africa records some 2,000 Covid-19 cases a day
Pretoria, Nov 20 (Prensa Latina) The number of new Covid-19 cases in South Africa rose on a daily average by 2,107 last week, the Ministry of Health disclosed.
This way, according to the daily report on the state of the pandemic in the country, the total number of Covid-19 infections across the nation is 757,144, of which 2,888 were recorded in the last 24 hours.
According to the data of the statement, with that total, together with the 701,534 recoveries and the 20,556 notified deaths, it is estimated that at present there are 35,054 active Covid-19 cases in South Africa.
The central Gauteng province has the largest number of cases, with 232,147,and an estimated 2,145 active cases of this disease at the moment.
For its part, southeastern KwaZulu-Natal province records the second highest number of Covid-19 cases, that is, 125,282, and 5,449 active cases, whereas southern Eastern Cape province records the highest number of patients, 7,961.
According to Minister of Health Zweli Mkhize, the current surge of the pandemic does not reach the WHO parameters of a sustained increase of 20 percent during seven days to qualify as a second wave.
The health authorities also reported 123 new deaths in the last 24 hours due to the pandemic.
Thus, the death toll rose to 20,556. Most of the deaths were recorded in Gauteng and Western Cape, that is, 4,935 and 4,487, respectively.
On average, 78 deaths a day were reported last week.
