Madrid, Feb 22 (Prensa Latina) The Theater Institute of Barcelona condemned abuse of power and sexual harassment as a practice that is incompatible with the institution's policies, after several students denounced those practices. With the will to clarify the events that involved more than a dozen teachers, the institution, which promotes training, creation, and the preservation and diffusion of the performing arts, issued a communiqué in which it supported the students.
The text expressed 'the most absolute condemnation' of those cases, according to female students who were victims of harassment and psychological ill-treatment by a score of professors, although they remain reluctant to admit the denunciation, published in the newspaper Ara.
The students' statement explained that teachers took advantage of their position of power to touch them and harass them, and they even promised them work in exchange of accepting their sexual pretentions.
The Institute said in a press release that over the past three years, it has had a protocol to confront sexual harassment and it has not receive any complaints.
