Participants in the Conference claim that this is a forum to help Syrians, but actually, it is a show-off event that is useless in the absence of Damascus, United Nations Delegate Bassam Sabbag said.
Sabbag added that the Conference has become a platform to attack and discredit Syria, and to politicize the humanitarian work at the service of the agendas of certain countries.
According to the diplomat, some Security Council member states ignore the disastrous effects of the economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, making it clear that they do not seek humanitarian work but rather achieve political objectives by exploiting that situation.
The illegal coercive measures, the latest of which is the so-called ‘Caesar Act’ imposed by Washington, represent an economic terrorism and collective punishment, and are the origin of the economic crisis the Syrian people are going through, he pointed out.
The European Union and the United Nations virtually convened the Brussels V Conference to be held on March 29-30, with the alleged objective of raising humanitarian aid funds for Syria.
