Bolivian justice orders detention of former Health Minister

La Paz, Apr 20 (Prensa Latina) A Bolivian judge on Monday issued a house arrest for former interim Health Minister Eidy Roca, who has been charged with alleged corruption crime for illegal purchase of Covid-19 respirators in 2020.

Eidy Roca was among the de facto government officials probed for being an accomplice to the irregular transaction of 324 coronavirus respirators for personal purpose.

Anti-corruption Prosecutor William Rodríguez banned Eidy Roca from leaving the country, set a US$10,000 bond and ordered her to appear in court every 15 days.

La Paz Prosecutor’s Office presented in March a formal complaint against Eidy Roca for alleged crimes of contracts harmful to the State and breach of duties.

The investigation determined that Roca´s manipulation and other members of Jeanine Áñez’s coup executive damaged the State with US$862,000.

Former President Áñez and her former ministers Álvaro Coímbra and Rodrigo Guzmán are also in custody and on trialed for sedition and terrorism crimes committed during the de facto government.
