Cuba’s President congratulates Togo on independence anniversary

Havana, Apr 27 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's President Miguel Diaz Canel on Tuesday congratulated his Togolese counterpart, Faure Gnassingbe, and the people of that African nation, on the 61st anniversary of its independence.

Diaz-Canel sent a letter to his counterpart in which he extended warm congratulations for the National Day, and reiterated the will to strengthen the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, according to Cuba’s Foreign Ministry website.

Cuba’s Ambassador to Togo Yenielys Vilma Regueiferos delivered the message to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Togolese Abroad,Robert Dussey.

Cuba and Togo celebrated on January 18, 42 years of bilateral diplomatic relations and among their most recent milestones is the participation of a medical brigade of the Henry Reeve International Contingent in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in the Togo.

Eleven Cuban healthcare collaborators stayed for three months in that territory, linked to the service of the Lome Commune regional hospital center, and with work results recognized by the local authorities, who highlighted their professional and human level.

In a letter to Cuba’s head of State, Togo’s president expressed the gratitude of his people for the work of Cuban healthcare professionals and affirmed that this opens a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations.
