The provisions, included in an Apostolic Letter as ‘Motu Proprio’ (Own Initiative), aim to preserve the faithfulness and honesty proclaimed by the Gospel and prevent and face conflicts of interests and corruption in general.

According to the new article 13 bis, when taking on their respective responsibilities, the leaders of the Holy See and the Vatican City State must sign a statement on the aspects that could influence transparency when managing resources.

For its part, a section added to article 40 bans the leaders from accepting or requesting presents and rewards worth more than forty euros for themselves or other people alien to the organization in which they work.
