Cuba: Agricultural investments for greater food production

Holguín, Cuba, Apr 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa urged the urgency of multiplying the benefits of investments made in the agricultural system in the province of Holguín, in order to guarantee a greater food production.

During an analysis of programs underway, Valdés Mesa learned about the work of the recently-recovered Biofactory for high-quality seeds, in which it is expected to achieve one million vitroplants per year.

Miguel Caisés, Biofactory director, told to the Cuban vice president that this program will report great contributions to the country´s farming from plantain, yam and taro seedling productions, and others, which will go to the fields stronger, free of plagues and diseases.

As part of his official agenda in Holguín, Valdés Mesa, in meeting with representatives of agriculture, fisheries, Azcuba, hydraulic resources and other organizations, laid stress on the need to develop and move on proposed plans, despite the complex Cuban context .

Mesa harped on mobilizing and encouraging food producers, transforming work management, reviewing payment systems, diversifying crops and boosting short-cycle crops, efficient exploitation of agricultural machinery and rationality of resources in agriculture.

When referring to the 2021 investments, Mesa reflected on the sustainability of projects, link with science and technology, as well as the use of renewable energy sources and waters of the East-West Transfer.
