President of Israel seeks new candidate to form government

Tel Aviv, May 5 (Prensa Latina) The President of Israel Reuven Rivlin is looking for another candidate to join the government after former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted his failure in the attempt.

Netanyahu, who won the elections last March with his Likud coalition, managed since the beginning of April the integration of a varied team with minority parties and achieve the 61 deputies necessary to have a majority in the Knesset (Israeli parliament).

Netanyahu admitted this morning that his efforts were fruitless and opened the way for the appointment by President Rivlin of another figure who can gather the necessary deputies to govern and, incidentally, avoid a fifth electoral process in less than five years, an unprecedented fact in the turbulent history of this country.

All forecasts point to the most likely candidate for the new administration being the telecommunications magnate Yair Lapid, leader of the Yesh Atid party (‘There is a Future’, in Hebrew), second in the legislative elections of March 23rd with 17 for hundred of the seats in parliament.
