Women’s Summit in Bolivia focusses on climate change, survival

La Paz, (Prensa Latina) The first Summit of Indigenous Women of Abya Yala (Latin America), organized in Bolivia, debates as of this Thursday issues on climate change and guarantees for survival and nutrition of humanity.

The event takes place until Friday at the headquarters of the Union of South American Nations, located in San Benito, Cochabamba, with a representation from 20 countries.

Angelica Ponce, executive secretary of the Bolivian Women’s Trade Union Confederation of Intercultural Communities, announced that essential issues such as femicides and the laws existing to defend women, decolonization and patriarchy, will also be addressed.

Among other considerations, participants in the summit will analyze how climate change affects farmlands, what to do to face it and how to look for life systems and resilience to fight this phenomenon.

The proposals arising from the event will be presented at the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
