El Siglo newspaper points out on Saturday the importance of massive participation given that candidates of the center, left and independents will dispute the governorships to the ruling coalition Chile Vamos, Let’s Go Chile in English, in the 13 regions that are holding a runoff.

According to analysts, considering the results of the first round and agreements and support reached by opposition political organizations, this sector could win in 10 regions, and there are even territories where two opposition candidates are competing, that’s why turning out to vote is key.

In the regions of Valparaíso, Aysén and Magallanes there will be no runoff because result were defined in the election of May 15 and 16, and in those three regions the representatives of the opposition won.

In a country with a historically high level of abstentionism, in the May 15-16 elections for governors, mayors, councilors and constituents, just over 45 percent of the electoral roll voted and observers expect that tomorrow’s turnout could be much lower.
