US blockade impairs Cuba´s Covid-19 vaccination campaign

Havana, Jun 15 (Prensa Latina) US blockade imposed on Cuba really counts against the country´s anti-Covid-19 vaccination campaign, Johana Tablada, deputy director of the Cuba Foreign Ministry´s general Division for the United States, condemned.

On Twitter, Tablada wrote that the President Joe Biden administration supports such coercive steps, tightened by Republican Donald Trump, despite health situation triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tablada recalled that among Biden’s first decisions was to review unilateral sanctions that limit the ability of States to fight Covid-19, an initiative not applicable for Cuba.

The United States has imposed on Cuba an economic, commercial and financial blockade for over 60 years, damaging social and economic spheres. This blockade was tightened under Donald Trump, where more than 240 measures were issued.

Despite the US blockade, Cuba developed five vaccine candidates, which are under separate phases of clinical trials. Two of them: Soberana-02 and Abdala in phase III.
