Cuba congratulates St. Lucia’s Prime Minister after being sworn in

Havana, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Thursday congratulated St. Lucia's Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre after his swearing-in and wished him success in his new duties.

On his official Twitter account, the president also ratified the will to expand fraternal and cooperative relations between the two countries.

Pierre took office on Wednesday for his 2021-2026 term, and expressed his commitment to focus his administration on the welfare and interests of the people.

The leader of the Saint Lucia Labor Party emerged victorious in Monday’s general elections, in which the political organization won 13 of the 17 available seats in parliament.

Havana and Castries will celebrate 42 years of diplomatic relations on August 23, characterized by friendship and solidarity, according to Cuba’s Foreign Ministry.

St. Lucia is an island state in the eastern Caribbean with a population of about 178,000 inhabitants and tourism is one of its main economic sectors.
