Argentine humanitarian mission continues work in Haiti

Buenos Aires, Aug 31 (Prensa Latina) The Argentine White Helmets Commission continues its work in Haiti today, where it traveled to collaborate in areas most affected by the earthquake that struck that country on August 14.

According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in this second stage, the brigade, made up of 25 members, began specialized care in pediatrics, clinic and trauma in tents installed outside Néstor Kirchner Hospital, located in the Corail commune, struck during quake.

Treatment has already been given to about 50 patients with structural pathologies, including respiratory, oncological and pediatric diseases. They also received free care and medicine.

President of White Helmets, Marina Cardelli, who heads the mission in Haiti, pointed out that the focus is on the Hospital, with the intention that through the articulation with present actors, it is possible to collaborate in the reconstruction of this symbol of regional solidarity.

For the care of nearby communities, the mission will carry out a donation of medical supplies and medicines, Cardelli said.

The humanitarian mission set up a type 1 health care unit in that commune with emergency ambulatory care, pediatrics, general medical clinic, obstetrics and trauma services, counting on a reception, triage, waiting room, hospitalization sectors as well as multi-parameter monitoring equipment and ultrasound scanners, among others.

The mission team left for Haiti on Saturday August 21 in an Argentine Air Force ‘Hercules’ and is scheduled to stay for 20 days.

‘The operation Argentina is deploying in Haiti highlights the historical friendship uniting our country with the Caribbean nations’, the Foreign Ministry said.
