According to the company’s version, one of its caravans was attacked, resulting in the wounding of one of the bodyguards, but the assailants were repelled without accomplishing the objective of appropriating the cargo.

The text clarifies that the action has no impact on its activities, while it assesses the situation and reviews its security procedures.

The action reissues others dating back to 2019 when a convoy of the Semafo mining company, also Canadian and engaged in gold mining, was the target of an assault near its open-pit mine in the locality of Boungou, in Gnagna department, in eastern Burkina Faso, in which 37 people, military and civilians, were killed.
