¨I propose that we put in place a bilateral readmission agreement to allow all illegal migrants who cross the Channel to be returned,¨ Johnson said.

According to Boris Johnson, the new measure would help to significantly reduce or halt the flow of migrants, and would also save many lives, because it would break human trafficking gangs´ business.

The UK prime minister also proposed to deploy as soon as next week a joint police force to prevent boats from leaving northern France´s beaches, and to use cutting-edge technology such as sensors and radars.

Johnson and Macron spoke by phone on Wednesday and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation to try to halt the flow of migrants.

According to official figures, over 25,600 people have crossed the English Channel boarding rubber boats and other flimsy boats.
