Havana, Feb 10 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) ratified today its willingness to guarantee animal welfare in the country based on Decree Law 31.

Through a communication, the MINSAP assured that since July 2021 it has surveillance, prevention and control programs for zoonotic diseases, focused on those at risk and executes actions such as monitoring the occurrence of cases, microbiological diagnosis and control of outbreaks.

For the implementation of the Decree, the MINSAP elaborated a regulation with which it has control of animal populations, modifies the mechanism for animal euthanasia, establishes the methods for sanitary inspection and the operation of the Animal Observation Centers.

We evaluate the conditions of these in the nation, we prioritize the construction or repair of the same in the investment plans, as well as guarantee that each province has at least one center in the provincial capital and in those very extensive, regional centers, specified the agency on its website.

He referred to the training of professional, technical service and inspection personnel in the matter, as established, and maintains the exchange with the different institutions linked to animal health surveillance.

The Health Promotion Unit has a program to promote population knowledge, attitudes and practices in relation to the responsible ownership of animals as a way to prevent and control animal abuse and zoonoses, highlighted the MINSAP.

However, he warned, the effort to protect animals requires not only the responsible authorities but also the awareness of the population.

Decree-Law 31 on Animal Welfare regulated the principles, duties, rules and purposes regarding the care, health and use of animals in response to the concerns and needs transmitted by animal rights activists and organizations on the island for several years.
